Yamaha Music Store in Chennai

I saw an advertisement in today's Hindu regarding the launch of Yamaha Music Store in Chennai. "Yamaha Music Square" is launching in Chennai today. It is located at Nungambakkam. I was already planning to purchase the Yamaha MO6 synthesizer keyboard. So this has come at the right time. So now I have a reason to visit the store and try out MO6 and probably PSR-S900 before purchasing.

Here is the advertisement on the Hindu.

Hi Ramesh, I'm a keyboard player in hyderabad. I've never been to Burma Bazaar and don't have any contacts in chennai for enquiry.
I saw your post above regarding S700 (Burma Bazaar price: Rs.45,000).

Could you help me know the price at which I can get a Yamaha PSR S900 at Burma Bazaar ?

    Thanks,

Actually the scene here in hyderabad is this: I have been calling a few shops to get a S900. At one shop the salesman/owner said he would get in it 2 days. Those 2 days are now more than to weeks. Still no S900 yet. Only consolation he gives me is that he had ordered an S700 and it has arrived. When I call the other shops, they say they will give a call back and let me know. When they do callback, they tell me they have an S700 (I'm sure this is the one that the first music shop showed me) ready and box-packed. So, as of today, among all musical intruments shops in hyderabad, there is probably only one S700 on sale.

  40. @Ruhi: May be check the PSR E213 or PSR E313 models from Yamaha. These are 5 octave keyboards. Check out http://www.yamaha.com/yamahavgn/CDA/List/ModelSeriesListLE.html?CTID=205000.

For western classical, check if you have the following features:

    - 5 octave keyboard with standard key size.

    - Touch response (Velocity sensitive touch response, has to be there for western classical)

    - Look for the basic tones, styles, etc. Styles (or accompaniment) will be useful if you want to play solo.

    - Metronome (guide for timing. will generally be there in basic keyboards).

    - Education suite (Certain Yamaha PSR series keyboards have this learning module where you can learn and practice songs with guidance from the learning module in the keyboard. Not mandatory, but useful for beginners).

    - Pitch Bend (not mandatory, but good if it is there)

    - Basic recording: not mandatory for beginners, but useful if you want to record few tracks. Also look at storage options: floppy/USB.
Check connectivity options as well: MIDI file save / MIDI out.

    - Registration Bank: Useful if you are performing on stage and want to quickly switch between different instruments.

    - Dual and Split styles: May be useful if you are performing.

Others can give your comments as well.

    Sorry for another comment...

What is the difference in getting a key board from Yamaha showroom and Burma Bazaar, apart from the cost? Is it the warranty and service? Do we get warranty and service if we buy from Burma Bazaar? And do we get online support including being able to register our product in official Yamaha site if we buy in Burma Bazaar?

  64. @Unicorn and @Jackuar:
I don't the price of these new models PSR S710 and S910. If I get to know, I will post it here.

@Unicorn: For church programs PSR S710 is definitely sufficient. Kindly check the Yamaha website for the difference in features. I think PSR S900 (and maybe S910) has extra features like Mic input and vocal harmony.

@Jackuar: I think PSR 2000 is not available. The model has been discontinued. It is a good keyboard. If you get an used one at very affordable price, you can definitely look at that option. I think PSR S710 is better of the two.

When you buy from Yamaha showroom, you have warranty and service. You don't have any warranty when you buy from Burma Bazaar. So if you know any good shop owner in Burma bazaar and if the price difference is huge, then you can look at that option.

  73. @sameul: I don't have information on that. If you need phone numbers of the stores, you have Yamaha's phone number listed in the post and in one of the comments. For the burma bazaar store details, provide your email address while posting comment so that I can share the details with you.

@dr.vishnu: If you are looking at 1 to 1.5 lakh budget, then you can look at PSR S900 and PSR S910. Or if it is high, look at PSR S700 / PSR S710 models. It has got very good sounds, and you will find it familiar to operate. I don't have information about Roland G6 or G8. If you want more synth/sequencer type models, you can probably look at the Roland Models you suggested / Yamaha MO6 / Yamaha Motif / Korg M3. But if you want very nice sounds and quickly play accompanying music with in-built styles you can look at the Yamaha PSR S910 and similar models.

@dheva: The piano in the above picture costs. Rs. 25 Lakh

    Hi,
I have recently started learning the piano. I have a PSR E413. But I feel that I would have to go in for a digital Piano which would have weighted keys. My budget is around 40-50k. Could you suggest me some decent digital pianos in that range? The most important criteria for me are the feel and the sound. Pls help.

    ReplyDelete
  78. @$unny: Yamaha PSR S700 and S710 will be a good choice for practice as well as for stage programs. I feel you can go ahead with this. Also look at PSR S900 which is the next model.

@Dr. Ramakrishna: I don't know the price of the new models 910 and 710. For the S900 and S700 prices, refer the earlier comments. Regarding Korg pa50, it was around Rs. 50,000 (I think) in Burma Bazaar. Not sure though. Also I am not sure if this is a good model to buy. You probably have better alternatives.

@S.Nair: I don't have any idea about digital pianos. I suggest you search for reviews on the internet and then decide.

  83. @Anon, Korg M3 is good I believe. PSR S910 is also good. But Korg M3 is more of a workstation rather than an arranger I believe. PSR S910 will be good when you are playing live and you want some inbuilt accompaniment styles as well. Korg M3, Yamaha Motif, etc would be good when you want to sequence everything yourself and want to modify the waveforms of the tones. So it basically depends on your need. That said, Korg M3, Yamaha Motif can be used for live performances as well.

    ReplyDelete
  84. @Anon: regarding swar systems, check their website: http://www.swarsystems.com/.

You can also check with your local music store. You can purchase online from their website as well.

    ReplyDelete
  85. @Chinmay: Instead of PSR223, you can look at PSR E413 / E423 which are good models. But if you are OK with not having some features, you can go with PSR 223. But remember to check the Yamaha website for the feature specificaion of these models and see what you need.

  89. @Chinmay: PSR E223 is not a bad choice for beginners. You can start with that and then later buy a better keyboard. Look at http://www.yamaha.com/yamahavgn/CDA/ContentDetail/ModelSeriesDetail.html?CNTID=5038880 for the specifications. Try it out at your store before you buy. Check if it has touch response. I don't think this model has touch response. But PSR E313 has touch response. Look at http://www.yamaha.com/yamahavgn/CDA/ContentDetail/ModelSeriesDetail.html?CNTID=555512&CNTYP=PRODUCT

  90. @Subash: I don't think you will get PSR 910 for 30K (even 2nd hand). You can probably check the Yamaha PSR E423 model. Also check the price of PSR S500/S550 models. Also I am not sure if there are better models out there. So don't just rely on me.

@Ragatracks: Thanks for the info. Would be useful for people who commented here.

  100. Danish: Be careful, esp when there are so many frauds around. Check the Yamaha site to find out if you have a Yamaha dealer in your location. I am not sure about the price in India.

Anonymous: I don't know the price of PSR S550B, but I guess it should be around the Rs.40K price range. I may be wrong though.

Prasanth: If you want Indian styles in particular, you can consider i425. Else e423 is very good for a beginner. Regarding the price range between 20 to 30K, I really don't know. Check what is the next model to e423. Previously the models PSR 1000, PSR 2000, PSR 2100 were there in this price range and they were very good. Unfortunately, these models are stopped now.

Yamaha is always better of the 2. But for the price range of Rs.5000, I am not sure if you have a suitable Yamaha model. May be look at the Yamaha PSR series. Or if it doesn't fit your budget, look for Casio models.

    Anon @ 11:44
Yamaha PSR series is good. However I have no idea about the Casio model you mentioned. Check the specs of both the models and decide which one satisfies your need.

    Anon @ 8:25
No idea. Check the Yamaha website for the specs. If you don't find any information try to post it in their discussion forum (if they have one).

  113. Dear sir,

Kindly send me the price list for psr2000 and psr2100. and please tell me which one is the best?

    ReplyDelete
  114. @Anon: I don't know the current price. With authorized dealers, it will be a little costly, but you will get it along with the bill and warranty. With Burma Bazaar, the price will be less. But you won't get any warranty. If you know any dealer personally in Burma bazaar, you can trust and buy. Else, you can't guarantee the authenticity.

@Paul: Those models are not sold now-a-days. So I don't know the price. But when they were available it used to be around Rs. 32000 or so. 2100 is a newer model than 2000 and I guess 2100 would be better of the two.

  133. Sorry for the late responses:

@Dinesh: I think you should call them or make a visit and find out. The address and phone numbers are available in this post.

@Deepak: Check in websites like olx.in for second hand goods.

@Godfrey: It depends on your budget. The one you suggested is a good model and Sidharth has already responded to your comment with the prices.

@Sidharth: Thanks for sharing. I will give your shop a visit when I am in need of something related to music.

@Sibi: All the Yamaha models you suggested are really good. PSR 2100 would have come within your budget but I think they are discontinued. So you will probably only get a second hand piece. I don't think PSR S900 will come within your budget. So if it is out of your reach may be try out PSR S700 or PSR S550/S550B. Read the specs and review before you buy.

@Anon at 11:14AM: For your price range, you can consider PSR E423 or PSR i425. Read the specs and reviews, watch videos and then decide. Also try out in a store in your region before buying.
